While you are in the USA, your insurance plan includes access to the Teladoc Virtual Telemedicine platform, allowing you to seek medical care whenever you need it, wherever you are.

Getting Started

  • Visit https://member.teladoc.com/registrations/get_started to set up your account for the first time.
  • You will need to follow the steps included in your insurance ID card document to register for your account, which will be emailed to you just before your program begins. Please contact your sponsor if your program has started but you have yet to receive your card.

Troubleshooting Your Account

If you aren’t able to register for your account, read below for solutions to the most common problems.

Are you in the US?

Teladoc is only available for US programs. If your program does not include The United States you cannot register for the service.

Is your insurance active?

You will not be able to register for the Teladoc service until after your insurance plan has started. If you aren’t sure when your plan starts, check your insurance ID card or ask your sponsoring organization.

Did you enter your name appropriately when registering?

You will not be able to register for your account if you enter more than one first name or last name during registration. You must enter your first name as included on your insurance information and your first last name.

Example: If your first name on your passport is James Johana Olivera Hurtado on your passport, you need to enter James as your first name and Olivera as your last name to successfully register your account.

Did you enter in your personal zip code or the one from your ID card?

You will only be able to register for an account if you use the zip code listed in the PDF document that accompanies your ID card. Your ID card will come with several additional pages. The zip code that you need to use is included within the Teladoc pages.

What is Telehealth?

Illness or injury can strike suddenly. Telehealth gives you access to medical help via telephone or web, any time, day or night. Using Teladoc’s telehealth service you can connect with a provider online from any location, and receive a diagnosis and personalized treatment plan, including prescriptions for common medications, when necessary.

How Does Teladoc Work?

After you've created your account, it's simple to request a real-time video, app, or phone consultation with one of Teladoc’s providers. A doctor will review your medical history and perform a video exam or phone consultation usually within minutes.

You will then receive a medical record and care instructions electronically, along with any necessary prescriptions sent to your local pharmacy. If you require urgent care you will be immediately referred to the nearest emergency room or urgent care center. The entire telehealth visit is completed on average within 30 minutes or less.

What Health Concerns can Teladoc Help Treat?

You can use Teladoc to help treat non-emergency health issues like sinus problems, respiratory infections, allergies, flu symptoms, rashes, and many other illnesses.

How Much Does the Service Cost?

The cost to use Teladoc is typically a per visit fee, so for each visit you have, you will just pay the appropriate fee. Please check your policy wording for details on any fees you will be charged to utilize these services.

Can I get a Prescription?

Yes, doctors can submit prescriptions for pick-up at your local pharmacy through the Teladoc service. You would then need to pay for this upfront and submit a claim against your insurance plan for reimbursement.

What if I Need a Referral?

If you are referred for follow-up care outside of Teladoc, any further visits will be handled by your insurance and will need to be submitted to your insurance company for processing.

Please note — there may be some circumstances where Teladoc will treat a condition that your insurance plan does not cover. If you are given a prescription or referral for an ineligible injury or illness, these costs will not be covered under your insurance plan when you submit a claim. Please review your policy certificate, in the MyDocuments section of your Student Zone, for your full plan benefits and exclusions.
